How to reach Himachal

Himachal Pradesh is served by the airports of Jubbarhatti near Shimla, Bhuntar near Kullu and Gaggal in Dharamshala. Flights are operated by low cost carriers to Delhi and Chandigarh.

By Train
The hilly terrain restricts rail transport in Himachal Pradesh. The longest rail-stretch in Himachal is the Pathankot-Jogindernagar line which connects the state to Punjab. Other rail heads in HP are Shimla, Solan and Una. Shimla is connected to Kalka by the heritage Himalayan Railway which is linked to major cities in India.

By Road
National and state highways interlink all major and remote locations in Himachal, though winters and monsoons see a closure of services due to landslides and blockages.. There is a string of options for those who wish to travel by road. Local cabs, regular, luxury and Volvo buses ply from Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Pathankot to Kullu, Manali, Shimla and Chail. The Leh-Manali highway passes through one of the steepest terrains in the world, at altitudes which average 16,500 ft.
