Rajasthan FortsHousing the largest number of forts and palaces, Rajasthan is rightly known as the 'Land of Forts.' Having a unique power of mesmerizing the onlooker, these forts can be found anywhere in Rajasthan. Some of the famous and renowned forts of the state include Chittaurgarh Fort, Jaisalmer, Fort, Taragarh Fort, Junagarh Fort, Mehrangarh Fort, Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort. These forts are the most visited sites in Rajasthan.

Chittaurgarh Fort:
Built by the contemporary Maurya rulers in 7th century AD on a hill top, Chittaurgarh Fort is a fine example of Rajputana architecture which was built by the Maurya rulers in 7th century A.D. This fort stands as an evidence of the unmatchable valor of Rajput soldiers who sacrificed their lives fighting the enemy instead of leading a life of submission.

Jaisalmer Fort:
Built in 1156 AD, Jaisalmer Fort is the second oldest forts of Rajasthan. Constructed by Raja Jaisal to guard his kingdom from foreign invasions, the fort is spread over an area of 30 meters. The sunsets at the fort are completely mesmerizing as the rays of the setting sun are given a golden gleam by the soaring walls of the fort thus making it to seem as rising out of the yellow sand.

Amber Fort :
An amalgamation of the classic fort-palace architecture, the Amber Fort in Jaipur is yet another architectural marvel dating back to the 16th century. Started by the contemporary Rajput ruler Man Singh I in 1592, the fort saw its completeion under the reign of his descendant Jai Singh I. An almost forbidding exterior of the fort belies an inner paradise where a gorgeous synthesis of Moghul and Hindu styles finds a vital sophistication.

The fort has a beautiful lake in its foreground known as Maota Lake which offers awesome reflections of the fort. One can take an elephant ride to reach the fort through meandering pathways for that truly royal experience.

Mehrangarh Fort: A wondrous and imposing structure stands proudly in the form of Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur commanding a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape. Situated on an altitude of 125 meters, the fort is spread in an area of five square kilometers and has seven gates. The fort with its unique architecture seems to be growing out of the rocky cliff, it is perched upon.
