KancheepuramKancheepuram had been the seat of India's religious
and cultural plurality and diversity. Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism
flourished in this sacred city. It was the capital of the Pallavas.The
city is fmaour for the following temples. Kailasanathar Temple Built by the Pallava emperor Rajasimha and his son Mahendra in the 18th century A.D, this temple is noted for its architecture and sculpture. The temple is perhaps the only early temple in India that retains all the 32 Vastupada Devtas. This mammoth temple is a sandstone structure. Varadaraja Perumal Temple The hundred-pillared hall in this temple, erected during the Vijaynagar period is renowned for its exquisite sculptures. The impressive edifice, with a single stone carvings, makes this a perfect example of Vijayanagar style architecture. The ornamental rings carved out of a single stone in chain at the four corners are the special features of this hall.
