Beach
Kanyakumari BeachOnce referred to as the "ALEXANDRIA OF THE EAST",
the Kanyakumari Beach holds a special importance amongst Indian beaches.
The beach has been a great centre for art, culture, civilization and
pilgrimage for years now. Besides its religious importance, the beach is a real delight for the nature lovers too. Lying at the southern tip of India the beach is at a meeting point of three major water bodies in India namely the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal, popularly known as Sangam. Some of this area has been converted into a bathing ghat where the tourists take a purification dip. Splendid sun rises and sunsets, majestic hills, colorful sea-shores, huge coconut trees and vast expanses of paddy fields have become absolute synonyms to the beach. One of the most unique features of the beach is its multi colored sand which presents a really captivating sight but the option of sunbath is ruled out here. The best time to visit the beach is a full moon day when its beauty is at the peak and awesome sights of sunset and moonrise present a picture perfect synchrony of nature. Ranked first in literacy among other districts in Tammilnadu, Kanyakumari has a fairly rough sea. There also are elevated patches of red cliffs with undulating valleys and plains between the mountainous terrain and the sea - coast that are closely interwoven with Temples and Churches. A variety of shells are on sale on the Kanyakumari beach. Another point of attraction at the beach is Vivekananda rock. It is a huge stone rising out of the sea, on which Swami Vivekananda is said to have meditated. A huge statue of the saint has been erected now at the place thus making it a must visit point for his followers.
