According to legends, in the 15th century, an independent sultanate ruled by the Muslim Muzaffarid dynasty was set up in Gujarat. As per local tales it is said that while camping on the banks of the Sabarmati River, Sultan Ahmed Shah saw a hare chasing a dog. Fascinated by all this, he turned up to his spiritual adviser who pointed out the unique characteristics inherited by the land that enabled a hare to go after a dog.
