Shree Jagannath Puri Temple: Shree Jagannath Puri temple is one of the most sacred temples of Puri whose foundation stone was laid back in the 12th century. This sacred place worships Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. The temple has a very famous event related with it that is celebrated in the month of June-July known as the “Rath-Yatra”.

 

 

Ganesha Temple: This temple is built in honor of Lord Ganesh also known as Vinayaka. The temple is believed to be erected decades ago and is adorned with numerous carvings that explain the cultural heritage.

 

 

Lakshmi Temple: The Lakshmi Temple is placed near the Jagannath temple and is dedicated to goddess Lakshmi.

 

 

Markandesvara Temple : Situated near Bindu Sagar, the Markandesvara Temple is believed to be built during the 13th century. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is visited by numerous travelers and pilgrims who wish to pay their honor to the deity and seek blessings.

Events & Festivals in Puri

Rath Yatra Festival : The Rath Yatra Festival is one of the most awaited festivals of Puri that is celebrated with great pomp and show in the months of June-July. The festival marks the annual visit of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra to their aunt’s house for a nine day stay.

 

 

Chandan Yatra Festival :It is held during the month of 'Baisakh' and goes on for a total of 21 consecutive days.

 

 

Puri Beach Festival :Held every year in the month of November this festival is organized by the Tourism department of Orissa and showcases the artistic heritage and the most enchanting sand art of the state.

 

 

Snana Yatra : On the Snana Yatra the idols of Lord Krishna, Balabhadra and Subhadra are bathed in the bathing pandal. It is celebrated in the month of Jyestha on the full-moon day.

 

 

Hera Panchami Festival :Celebrated on the fifth day after Ratha Yatra, Hera Panchami Festival falls in the month of July.

 

 

Avhisheka : Avhisheka is the enthronement ceremony of Lord Jagannath.

 

 

 

Dola Yatra : It is a spring festival on which idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are taken to the altar for a five day stay.

• By road :The state run buses connect Puri to Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Konark and Kolkata.
